Messy Family Minute #11: Special Times

This is a Messy Family Minute with Mike and Alicia Hernon.

It is vitally important for children to feel individually loved and known by their parents. Especially in a big family like ours this can be very challenging. But no matter how many kids you have, you have an obligation to work on your relationship with each individual child. Relationships are built with the material of time and we need to give our time to our children in an intentional way.

We do something with our kids that we call “Special Time”. Special time is spending time with one child doing something that they like to do. It could be something simple like going to a park, the library, or on a hike. Or you could go out for ice cream, a movie, or have some other fun experience.

It’s really not that important what you do. What is important is that you are focused on getting to know that individual child and sending them the message that they are important, they are loved, and they are known by you. This lays the foundation for their relationship with God.
