Very often parents contact us for advice on disciplining their kids. Children are “raw personality” when they are born, and it’s the job of parents to shape them into civilized human beings! To accomplish this task moms and dads need to create expectations, structure, and rules to teach kids how to respect other people. But those rules need to be enforced within relationships.
A good maxim for parents to remember is “Rules without relationship breeds rebellion.” The first step in disciplining our children is to invest in our relationship with them. This is true if your child is 4 or if they are 14. Fill up their love tank, learn how they tick, and recognize their amazing uniqueness! This will open their hearts to the guidance that only you can give as a parent.
