Messy Family Minute #66: Music in the Home

This is a messy family minute with Mike and Alicia Hernon.

How do you keep God on your mind once you’re done with prayer and daily Mass? It’s different for each of us, but one tool we’ve learned to use in our family is Christian music. Whether you are working around the house or driving in the car, it’s far more uplifting to listen to than overplayed secular love songs. And God can speak to you through it.

It’s amazing how transformative good Christian music can be. Music can help us memorize Scripture and remind us of the providence of God throughout the day. It can teach kids the Bible in a way they love. And kids can make music on their own! As they grow up, encourage your children to pick out Christian music that they personally relate to. There are all different genres, from chant to country to contemporary.

St. Paul exhorts us, “Sing psalms, hymns, and inspired songs to God from your hearts.” Music can help deepen your love for God and lift your spirit to Him throughout the day. Try it this season and see!
